Cleanliness is next to Godliness

Importance of clean earth

          Earth is the most beautiful thing god has ever created. By every sense, earth is unique in our galaxy. It has trees, soil, atmosphere and air to breath, a perfect condition to flourish the life. But in the era of modernization and globalization, Aren't we following behind in maintaining beauty and cleanliness of our mother earth ?
          A clean person is not who runs away from dirt but who takes efforts to clean that dirt. Most people keep their home clean; but don't hesitate to dirty their surrounding, which is not a good habit. As a member of 'The Earth Community' we owe something to it. We are responsible to keep our home as well as our surrounding clean and clear from dirt.

          Various countries has registered a sustained economic growth in last few years. Their growth curve is rising to the sky, which is a proudly thing. But still there are number of countries that faces a huge economic loss due to poor hygiene and sanitation. Inadequate sanitation leads to poor health, losses in education, death and at the end overall productivity and well being of the people. (Eg: According to World Bank, India loses 6.4 per cent of GDP annually due to this particular reason.) Sustainable development is not the one which is achieved by economic growth, but it is the development in favor of every environmental factor. It's an economic development conducted without harnessing, depleting and exploiting of natural resources.
          Government involvement in cleanliness programmes are more likely to get successful results. Government should not concern itself only which human problem, but also with problems arising in environment. Large scale cleanliness and hygienization programmes must be conducted by goverment. Responsibility of goverment officials is also necessary in such programmes. Goverment should set up some core ministries and departments to take efforts on cleaning and sanitation.

          'Cleanliness is next to Godliness', a famous statement by eminent personality, M.K. Gandhi. He always said that cleanliness is not just a thought but it's a way of life. Not just cleanliness of body and environment but of soul is necessary for better future. To keep our environment clean should be the dedication of every responsible person. People's involvement can be a milestone in saving our earth. Youth can serve as primary messenger and leader for bringing about changes of any kind. Before doing any bad activity, (like throwing garbage on road) we must think twice. What mess are we doing now is going to hunt us in future. If we want to live good life, breath fresh air, and drink clean water, we must start acting now, before it's too late.
